Benjamin Kurczyk is the Head of Data Engineering at Sky Deutschland GmbH. He is working within Sky Data since joining the company in 2020. He is focused on leveraging technologies that enable fast, flexible and value-driven usage of data across Sky. With a strong background in Big Data and Data Engineering, which have been central to his work since his academic studies, Benjamin has implemented several high-profile data related products. These projects involved using technologies like the Hadoop-Stack, Kafka, Cloud-based Services and traditional Datawarehousing tools. He held the roles of Senior and Principal Engineering as well as Solution Architecture with a big focus on driving requirements to serve business needs. His main focus is building robust data architectures beyond temporary technology trends.
Data is a universal, but sometimes overlooked, driver in almost all aspects of business, industries and human interactions. Therefore we long left behind the times where data departments merely provided reports and Excel Sheets. Instead data is now involved in internal and external process, value creation, business development and the greater vision of the whole company. This fact drives my passion for what I do as it allows me to dive into so many different facets of my company and work with a diverse set of stakeholders to create value.
Sky specifically acts within an extremely dynamic market and competes with big players world wide. This creates many interesting challenges and enables a flexible and dynamic culture that fits my way of working a lot. We are all about solutions to problems and do not shy away from changing plans when the world around is changing.
This also allows my area of responsibility to be flexible in our ways of working and the tools we use, be it on-premise, in the cloud or both.
